Acne Scars Defined and Described

One of the unpleasant side effects of acne is the scars left behind and the poor state of the skin. Acne scars
are, unfortunately, notoriously hard to treat. In certain cases acne scars can not be removed despite the expensive methods used. The most common ways of dealing with acne scars are:

Dermabrasion. The outer layer of the skin is removed in order to remove scars. This method is best used for scars that stand out from the skin and much less effective for scars going deep into the lower layers.

aser resurfacing. A laser beam is used to remove areas of damaged skin one layer at a time. Laser treatment is also effective in getting rid of areas of uneven pigmentation and achieving an overall healthy look.

Punch excision. This is a method of correcting deep scars through the use of a punch biopsy tool, which is matched to the size of the acne scar. The scar is excised with the punch tool and the edges of the skin are sutured together.

Just How Bad Can it Get?

Teenagers are a mess of hormones and still busy learning how to cope socially. It would be wonderful if we could say that they all come out of it in one piece. But, too often, their lives are made difficult by the way they interact with their peers. Any young person is vulnerable if something marks him or her out as different. Hopefully, that distinguishing characteristic will be short-lived. The group will quickly forget and move on to the next topic of interest. But acne can come and stay as an all too visible feature. If the mass reaction is unkind, this can seriously damage the victim’s self-esteem. This type of situation can rapidly pass through routine bullying and become intensely personal. As parents, this can create several quite different headaches. The first is keeping your child safe. It can sometimes be difficult to decide whether your child is being affected. Some seem to to be almost completely oblivious to the bullying. Others fall apart when the glances they dread come their way. They have seen it happen to others and their anticipation and fear magnifies the mild reality into a crisis. Emotional support is part of the job-description of being a parent. But how far should you go on the medical front? The options are to: • ignore the medical side and wait for the hormones to settle down; • use over-the-counter (OTC) products; • refer to your local healthcare provider; or • consult a dermatologist. Women Have Male Hormones

This article is written for the female of the species — all you hunter-gatherer types should go off and kill something to keep your hand in. The reason why your body produces acne is well understood. There are glands called sebaceous in the skin of your face, neck, chest and back. They are really useful because they release an oily substance to keep your skin supple and, more importantly, waterproof. Just think how embarrassing it would be if you became waterlogged in the tub. Which emergency service would you call? If there is too much androgen (those are the male hormones) in your body, the glands can produce too much oil. This confirms your deepest suspicion that all your problems are caused by men. This builds up and blocks the pores. Pimples are the result. If bacteria infect the pores, you get the usual swelling and sometimes painful redness. So here we go with the stark fact. Women do produce androgens but, you will be pleased to know, only in small quantities unless something goes wrong. The first sign of this is facial hair. But this is relatively rare and material for a different article. (more…)

Back Acne Treatment – You Can Get Rid of Bacne, Even if It’s Cystic

Get rid of them!

That’s a common cry for people suffering with back acne, or bacne, as it’s sometimes called. But no matter what it’s called, people who have back pimples are just as bothered by it as people who have facial acne problems to deal with. It just goes to show that zits can break out anywhere on the body, at anytime, and the back is an especially vulnerable area for acne breakouts.

Pimples on the back are an annoyance that are, not only extremely sore and painful but, embarrassing and unsightly. You may be ashamed to show your back with visible acne pimples and cysts, and this can seriously affect how you feel about yourself and possibly even your desire to participate in some social activities. After all, who wants to go to, say, a pool party so people can stare at your back boils, bumps and cysts with disgust? Or you may not want to wear v-necks or t-shirts for fear the back acne will show over the top of them. No matter what you do, the main thing is, to get rid of your back acne problems for good you need to follow an effective treatment regimen that will eliminate it and keep it under control.

Can an Imbalance of Hormones Cause Acne?

Acne and its development is said to have a close connection with changes in hormones. People suffering from acne often have oily skin due to the high level of the androgen and testosterone hormones present in the body, as certain studies have shown. Because of this a sort of Yin and Yang phenomenon, a balance of androgen and estrogen, is thought to be required to maintain healthy skin. Acne tends to develop when hormonal imbalances occur.
